The corpus of traditional Ashkenazi given names underwent major changes during the second millennium CE. For example, a number of Hebrew names started to be used. The study of Ashkenazi given names helps answer major questions to do with Jewish social history and establishes directions of migrations of Ashkenazi Jews.
